A History Of Nautical Star Tattoos

There are a number choices when deciding about what tattoo to get and nautical star tattoos are a common choice. When trying to make that decision, there are important things to consider. One thing you need to consider is the history of whatever the choices are. One popular tattoo design people get is the nautical star. Because they are common, many people like to know about its origins.

The word nautical in Nautical Star Tattoos refers back to sailors. The word itself refers to things having to do with sailing so the connection is obvious. Many early sailors would navigate by using the stars at night. The North star was one thing in the sky that would allow the sailors to know where they were headed. Once sailors knew where the north star was, they could safely plan their trip to where they were headed.

Because most people believe that sailors were known to be a bit superstiocious, many of them would get Nautical Star Tattoos somewhere on the body, most commonly the forearm. This became a symbol not only of the direction of the ship by using the stars at night, but it also represented the course of life for these sailors. Sailors knew that by some miracle or chance, they would make it to their destination or home safely. The act of tatooing a star on their forearm gave them hope that they would make it back to their home.

Nautical Star Tattoos also became known by these sailors as the symbol of finding ones place in life. When seeking one's direction in life, it would be nice to have a guide, or a north star to know the direction in which to go. Many people would say that the sailors got these tattos for that reason also. Especailly being a sailor, finding ones direction in life could be difficult at times when much of life is left to chance. The star is the place of hope that every person can look upon.
