Tattoo Shops Maui

Tattoo from Hawaii?

Im about to take a trip to Maui, and wanted to take home the ultimate souvenier, a tattoo. I have a few already, but i wanted to add one to my collection. I recently saw an older way of tattooing, done by a long stick with teeth at the end, and another tapping stick. I understand its the "ancient" hawaiian way. Does anyone know of a shop in Maui that do these? Ive found many alternative parlors, but, none of them seem different than the ones here on the mainland. Im looking for something unique.

This is the ancient way of tattooing across most of Polynesia. (the word "tattoo" comes from tau tau, which I believe is Tahitian) I don't know if there are shops that have this type of artist, but I know there are individuals who still practice the art. I am just not sure how you would go about contacting one. This art form has a lot of spiritual meaning to many Native Hawaiians and others from Polynesia, and I am not sure if the artist would be willing to do a "souvenir". My Papa is Hawaiian, and he agrees that you will probably not be able to find an artist willing to do this for you. There is a shop in Maui that does good Hawaiian Tribal Tattoos the conventional way, but I am not sure of the name. ( I have a friend who had work done there.)
