The Tattoo History
The tattoo has a long history dating
back thousands of years. Tradition and ritual behind the tattoo in that time
has taken a very important role. Woman in Borneo used tattoos to show there skills. To fend
off sickness and disease a tattoo was placed around the wrist or the fingers. Throughout
history, to symbolize a community or tribe tattoos have also been used.

Over time the use and effect of tattoos has differed from culture to culture.
Most believe that tattoos started earlier
but the history of tattoos began from Egypt in the time of the Pyramids.
Egyptians at this time were believed to use tattoos as a way to mark the
Slaves and the Peasants. The history has also said that around about
2,000 BC, tattoos spread to China and then along to Greece. In a way to communicate with spies the Greeks used tattoos.
The history of tattoos has also shown that Japan also along the way had used
the use of tattoos. The Japanese incorporated the use of tattoos for religious and
ceremonial rites. In this period of time, Borneo women were the artists. They made the designs that pointed out the life and clan or tribe that he or she was associated with.
Infections were most common during these days though the history of tattoos
has shown that tattoos were very popular. The tattoos were a long way from being
ideal which showed up in the way they were done.
Although they weren’t well accepted at first, tattoos were shown in the western
regions as well. The explorer William Dampier was the man who re-introduced tattoos
to the western regions. In the year of 1691, he brought a heavily tattooed Prince to the
region, showing off his tattoos with exhibitions. He made quite a lot of money with
these exhibitions, which in turn made tattoos very popular in London and well desired
throughout the surrounding areas. But prior to that it was almost 600 years since the tattooo was seen in
the region.
Chatham Square, which is located in New York City, was the initial area to feature
American styled tattoos. During the turn of the century, Chatham Square attracted
people from all over the USA, mainly only ones with
lots of money. A man by the
name of Samuel O-Reily set up shop in Chatham Square, becoming the first man to
use an electric tattoo gun. In the beginning, the now popular tattoo gun was based on
Thomas Edison’s electric pin that used a needle point to puncture paper.

Featuring moving coils, a needle bar and tube, which are common components of
today’s guns. The electric tattoo gun was very popular, allowing those who wanted a
tattoo to get one at a great price. These guns helped to revolutionize tattoos and
allowed the tattoo artists to give tattoos fairly fast as well. People took to this new
technology in droves, making it by far the best and most efficient way to get a tattoo.
During the late 1960s, tattoos really began to take off. They were featured in
magazines, television, and talked about everywhere. These days, tattoos are very
common, with nearly ½ of the population in the USA having at least one tattoo. They
are still very popular with bikers and clans, symbolizing that one is a member.
There are millions of tattoo designs out there for tattoos including different color
combinations that have helped to make tattoos the phenomenon they are today.
